Help! - My Email Has Been Blocked!

Anivirus & Spam ControlM2Technology provides Enterprise level Spam and Virus email filtering services out of our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania based data center.

In an effort to effectively reduce incoming Spam for our clients, M2Technology employs RBL testing as one of several email security checks.

While highly effective and very efficient at reducing the bulk of trash email there is a trade-off - legitimate email can sometimes be falsely tagged as Spam.

RBLs - Real-time Block Lists
 Effective Spam Filtering

RBLs are lists of IP addresses that have been identified by the various list maintainers as being sources of Spam. RBLs are a highly effect means for reducing levels of Spam - however, this can lead to potential issues.

For instance, if two users send email from the same mail server (e.g. the same Internet Service or Hosting Provider), and one of the users is sending Spam, the entire mail server can be blocked based on it's IP address. In this fashion, legitamate users are penalized (the whole server is blocked) due to the actions of one user. As a result RBL testing can be prone to mistakes, and dated information may sometimes lead to false positives.

If you receive a bounceback message from a domain hosted with M2Technology the following resolutions will apply:

Read Your Bounceback Header
Learn Why Your Message Is Blocked

Comments:

(1) If you have tried to send a message to an email account hosted by M2Technology and received a bounce back message - Read the message in the bounceback and/or email header for additional information.

(2) If you are an M2Technology hosting client and you find that you are unable to receive messages from a specific sender, ask them to - Read the message in the bounce back and/or emailheader for additional information.

If a particular message is blocked due to an RBL, the header will provide the name of the RBL and a link to follow to correct the issue. Typical header messages include the following:

Whitelist a Legitamate Sender
 Bypass The RBLs

If you are hosting your website with M2Technology and would like whitelist a sender's email address or domain, simply contact us by sending a message to with a subject line of "Whitelist for yourdomain.com" (remember to insert your actual domain name).

We will add either the sender's address or domain to a whitelist entry created for your account. This will immediately go into effect and will allow the whitelisted sender/domain to bypass our filtration servers.

Whitelisting is meant to provide hosting clients an immediate solution for RBL blocks - however, we strongly suggest that the block be removed by contacting the corresponding RBL organization.
